About The Association

Association of Mental Health Providers is the only national representative organisation for voluntary and community sector providers of mental health and wellbeing services in England and Wales. We represent our membership of small, medium, and large providers – from locally focused to regional and national organisations with the purpose of providing a professional platform on which the vital work of all our members can be seen and heard.

The Role of Member Trustee 

At this exciting stage in our development, we are seeking individuals to work with their peers to oversee the strategic direction of The Association, to monitor delivery of our charitable objectives, to ensure good governance, and to support our staff as we continue to move forward.

We are seeking strategic and visionary leaders to help us raise the contribution of our sector, take forward our leading and innovative work, and campaign for the most effective services.

Job description

Overview

  • To take part in formulating and regularly reviewing the strategic aims of the organisation;
  • Work with other trustees to ensure that the policy and practices of the organisation are in keeping with its aims;
  • Work with other trustees to ensure that the organisation functions within the legal and financial requirements of a charitable organisation and strives to achieve best practice.

Main duties

Formulating strategic aims

  • Consider the organisation and its beneficiaries, whether as a member of the trustees or any of its committees, sub-committees, groups etc.;
  • Reflect the organisation’s vision and principles, strategy, and major policies always;
  • Contribute specific skills, interests, and contacts, and support the organisation in fundraising activities.

Ensuring policies and practices are in keeping with aims

  • Follow the Code of Conduct at all times, particularly when exercising the functions of the trustees, or any of its committees, sub-committees, and groups;
  • Attend meetings of the Board of Trustees;
  • Reflect the Trustees’ policies and concerns on all its committees, sub-committees, groups.

Ensuring best practice

  • Be an active member of the Trustee body in exercising its responsibilities and functions;
  • Maintain good relations with senior managerial staff;
  • Take part in training sessions provided for the benefit of the Trustees. Fulfil such other duties and assignments as may be required from time to time by the Trustee body.

The skills and qualities required will be:

With such a diverse membership, The Association is keen to ensure that our Board properly reflects the range of services provided by our members and the communities it serves. Therefore, we are particularly keen to receive applications from individuals from a minoritised background, CEOs of a small provider organisation or social enterprise, and welcome applicants with living experience of poor mental health, including carers.
