CHT (Community Housing and Therapy) runs residential and non-residential therapeutic environments for adults with severe and enduring mental health problems, predominantly a psychosis or personality disorder. Many have of those referred have a forensic history. We also run a programme for homeless and psychologically traumatised ex-service personnel in partnership with The Tavistock Clinic. CHT’s therapeutic programme provides a structure orientated towards recovery and increased independence.

We employ range of therapeutic interventions in our projects. This has a dramatic impact on relapse rates, reduces future hospital admissions and normally makes possible significant reductions in medication.

What we do

The services we offer include:

  • Group and individual psychotherapy, combining a psychoanalytic model, psychosocial interventions (PSI) and group cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), we help clients find methods of coping with persistent distress. This includes the use and careful monitoring of medication.
  • Postgraduate training programme in psychotherapy – accredited by the University of Middlesex
  • Internships for clinical psychology students, student social workers and student psychiatric nurses
  • A range of workshops for individuals or groups who work with people who have mental health problems, are homeless or have drug/alcohol problems
