Organisation Description

MhIST is an innovative user-led organisation that provides a responsive, safe, and confidential service that supports people with mental health challenges, and their carers’ and families in Bolton. Their purpose is to support people in a positive environment where an individual can flourish and achieve their goals. Their services (talking therapies, mental health advocacy, self-help and volunteering and back to work opportunities) are free at the point of access, inclusive, responsive, and creative. They are committed to supporting people to drive their recovery positively, develop self-management strategies, build resilience, and respond positively to future challenges. They are an organisation who believe everyone has the right to be listened too; to be heard and to have a voice, that service users are at the centre of decision making.

About the opportunity

MhIST are looking for advice and support on their business planning to align their business plan with their day-to-day operations. For MhIST, the pandemic has brought about an increased demand for services, greater budget management and the need to increase their capacity to deliver – all of which are expected to be permanently higher than it was pre-pandemic. A ‘critical friend’ who can provide support to how to manage this growth, and support the Manager to address to more strategic priorities for the organisation, would be welcomed. One aspect of this support could focus on how MhIST can develop their income stream from private business; how to pitch for such services, market their organisation to the private sector and how monetisation of these services could support their wider operational delivery costs. MhIST hope that with this strategic support to move forward, they can keep workforce wellbeing and their other values at their heart even as they grow, to ensure they are set to succeed and support as many people with mental health challenges (and their carers) in Bolton as possible.
