Data Observatory
Dashboards
Explore trends, compare places, and connect information about need with what we know about community provision.
Our dashboards bring together indicators that are usually spread across different sources. They are designed to help users understand change over time, variation between places, inequalities, workforce, provision, and other factors relevant to planning and commissioning.
The dashboards should support questions rather than reduce an area to a single score. What does the data show clearly? Where is the picture incomplete? How does one place compare with similar areas? What additional local evidence is needed?
Data Insights
Data Insights sits within the dashboards. These views bring selected indicators and short interpretation together around priority questions in community mental health.

Evidence for mental health organisations
The Association Data is the Association’s evidence observatory: the documents, the claims drawn from them and the figures they report, gathered from across the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector, the NHS and government – in one place, and live.
- Connected to the sources, every day. The charity registers of England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, the trustees’ annual reports of mental health charities, GOV.UK publications, the mental health pages of the NHS website and UK legislation are read daily; the figures on the Sources page are counted live.
- Read by agents, approved by people. Every document is read by the observatory’s agents, which draw out a summary, its evidence claims and its figures; an administrator approves them before they become part of the searchable base. Today: over 3,000 source documents, 3,900 organisations, 35,000 claims and 2,900 metrics.
- Explore the evidence. Search the documents, claims and metrics by word, then narrow the list by document type, jurisdiction, topic, organisation and year. Open any document for its summary, approved claims, metrics and the original publication.
- Ask the evidence. With the Association members’ account, put a question in plain English. The assistant answers only from the evidence base and marks every statement with a citation that opens the source excerpt.
