Data Observatory
Sources & methods
Clear evidence needs clear sources, definitions, and limitations.
Trust in the Observatory depends on users being able to understand where information came from, how it has been combined, when it was updated, and what it cannot tell us.
We use public datasets, member and provider information, research, and Association evidence. Sources are updated at different times and use different definitions, so those differences should be visible rather than hidden behind a single dashboard.
Data quality
We check coverage, geography, definitions, duplicate records, and obvious inconsistencies, and continue to improve service-level information with providers.
England and Wales
Some datasets are not directly comparable because systems and collection methods differ. We will make those differences explicit.
Responsible interpretation
We will avoid ranking organisations or places without a sound basis and will explain uncertainty where it matters.
Corrections
Providers and partners can tell us when information about an organisation, service, or place is wrong or out of date.
