Place profiles

A local picture of need, provision, workforce, inequalities, and system context.

Place profiles bring relevant information together so an area can be understood as a whole. They can combine population and demographic context, indicators of mental health need, community services, member presence, workforce data, local system boundaries, and comparison with wider benchmarks.

They are particularly useful as a shared starting point for conversations between providers and commissioners. A profile can show where the data points to a question or possible gap, but it should not replace local knowledge or the experience of people using services.

Where a number looks surprising, the next question should be what providers and communities know that the dataset does not yet show.
