Liverpool Day of Action
The Association of Mental Health Providers stands in solidarity with Providers Unite as they peacefully walk through Liverpool on 29th September 2025.
This is a pivotal moment for our everyone sector, we join the call for policymakers and commissioners to take decisive action to protect and strengthen mental health social care by:
- Ensuring funding models reflect the complexity of mental health support, moving away from short-term contracts that undermine stability and quality.
- Prioritising workforce strategies that invest in specialist training, retention, and wellbeing, ensuring our specialist workforce can deliver meaningful mental health social care to achieve the ambition of the NHS 10 Year Plan.
- Guaranteeing a fully funded Fair Pay Agreement, acknowledging that workforce sustainability is one of the most pressing strategic risks facing our sector.
- Recognising the economic contribution of social care, which not only delivers essential support alongside the NHS but also drives local economic resilience.
- Embedding mental health social care within the broader health and social care system, ensuring it is no longer treated as an afterthought but as a vital, integrated component of national wellbeing.
We walk together to shine a light on the human impact of the Employment Rights Bill and the Social Care Fair Pay Agreement. These reforms must reflect the realities of our workforce and the communities we serve.
Let this be a moment of unity, visibility, and celebration of our care and support sector.
Dania Hanif, Interim Chief Executive of the Association of Mental Health Providers, says:
“Social care is the backbone of our health and care system, yet it has been undervalued for far too long. The Providers Unite Day of Action in Liverpool is a powerful opportunity to stand together, celebrate our dedicated workforce, and shine a light on the essential role of mental health social care. We are calling for bold action to build a fair, properly funded, and sustainable system that truly meets the needs of every community.”
