Prevention
Association of Mental Health Providers and its members promote wellness and champion good mental health across all communities, with an emphasis on prevention of the development or worsening of both mental and physical health.
A focus on preventing the development and exacerbation of mental health problems is necessary for practice development and improving the lives of individuals with mental illness. This requires a consideration of the wider determinants on a person’s mental health, such as employment, housing or accommodation, relationships and good access to appropriate health and social care services. There is a good understanding of this in the voluntary and community sector, and the Association will continue to promote the impact and value of service provision that takes into account whole person care and support.
The Association will also support the sector to be more informed and better equipped to deliver and sustain high quality prevention services by sharing resources and practice ideas, promoting development of public mental health research and increasing workforce capacity.
