#TheFinalStraw Campaign
The Association of Mental Health Providers’ #TheFinalStraw campaign calls for urgent action to address the funding crisis threatening VCSE mental health services. Without immediate and sustainable funding, many service providers are at risk of collapse and closure, putting the essential care and support that millions rely upon at risk.
Why is this #TheFinalStraw?
VCSE mental health service providers are reaching their breaking point. Years of rising costs and underfunding coupled with increasing demand for services already created cracks in the sector. But the newly announced increases in the National Living Wage, higher National Insurance contributions, lower thresholds, alongside existing growing operational costs, have not been matched by fair funding from Central government or statutory services. VCSE mental health service providers are now at risk of being able to sustain vital services in our communities, for people most in need.
For many organisations this is the final straw. Unless action is taken now, services could disappear, leaving millions without the mental health support they need.
We are calling for:
The government to make mental health charities (VCSE organisations) exempt from these recent Budget announcements including the increase in National Insurance contributions and National Living Wage, so they can continue to deliver essential support.
